2025
2025 was not a good year for the country, and I bid it good riddance. We learned that the President has unchecked power to do what he wishes and to abuse the Constitution whenever he wants. We watched as a supine Congress became his lackey. We heard one conspiracy theory after another and were agasht at those who believe them. It was a memorable year for all the wrong reasons and perhaps, a watershed for our democracy. We have at least three more years of misdirection to experience. May they not be as bad as 2025.

DEI
President Trump's mission to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion from the US has struck a nerve in the Netherlands. There, the decision to remove panels honoring the service of black soldiers during WWII from a US cemetery has sparked outrage and demands they be returned. Could it be that citizens of the Netherlands are far less racist than the US?

A Pittance
US contributions to UN aid programs is only a pittance of what it once was. The US is still the richest country in the world. Stiffing the poor and destitute is criminal.

Imperial?
Consider this article as you wish, but it sure looks like President Trump is a reigning king.

Forgotten?
Merry Christmas... Sometimes it seems that the popes of the Roman Catholic Church are forgotten voices calling for peace and the dignity of man. They are lone figures preaching the word of God in a secular world that has moved far from religion. Then, there is this. A crowd far too large to fit into the massive St. Peter's basilica. Some are listening although those in power might not be. It's heartening to see and a sign of hope for a world convulsed in war, famine and genocide.

What Now?
For a President who demands unthinking loyalty, what is he making of this?

Detestable
This is detestable, crude and uncalled for, especially from the President. No wonder his fellow Republicans have criticized him for writing it.

Symbolic
Sadly, the Nobel Peace Prize will do little to instigate regime change. Maduro has bought off his generals. The prize is a symbol of frustrated dreaming.

The king in his glory still can't stop himself from slandering his audience. The Kennedy Center honors will never be the same.

More power to the executive branch? Back to winner-takes-all politics and the corruption they fostered.

Correction
The admiral said there was no "Kill them all" order in the alleged drug boat incident. My apology to Hegseth.

Will it make a difference? In this administration probably not.

Despicable
To give an illegal command, which was carried out, then to blame the subordinate is despicable but that is what Hegseth has done.

Growing A Spine?
It looks like Congress might be growing a spine and beginning to stand up to Trump and his toady, Hegseth.
