The Price You Pay
With hackers, it is all about money and the price you pay for refusing their demands is release of data on the dark web. That is the lesson the Los Angeles Unified School District is learning as information about students and teachers is now circulating in the criminal world. The hackers didn't wait for the deadline of today. They started moving the information over the weekend to the anger and frustration of the victims. The district is not saying what has been released, leaving parents in the dark. That has left them deeply concerned and angry. At some point, LAUSD will have to come clean with the public and that could be a PR debacle for the school administration. There is no good way to handle this. Transparency might be the best solution, but not always. No matter what happens, there will be embarrassment for the school district.
