UnAmerican

How can the Trump administration trumpet MAGA when it is doing this to citizens and immigrants?  ICE agents and the police are out of control in siezing illegals and are acting like jackbooted thugs.  It is not America to act that way and falls far short of the promise of the Statue of Liberty.

Too Soon

Although the economy grew at a 3% pace in the second quarter, it's too soon to boast.  A year from now, we will know whether it was a trend or a blip.  It's dangerous to take credit too early.

Denial

Netanyahu denies the facts and images from Gaza about starvation.  What is he thinking and how has he remained in power for this long?  Israelis are better than this.  It is past time to stop this ethnic cleansing and to work to regain the country's shattered reputation in the world.

Lie

“It’s frankly ridiculous that anyone in this room would even suggest that President Trump is doing anything for his own benefit,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in May, in response to questions about whether the president would conduct personal business meetings on his trip to the Middle East. “This White House holds ourselves to the highest of ethical standards.”  The president's golf trip to Scotland makes this statement from his press secretary an outright lie.  Add the trip to other conflicts and Trump is guilty of hypocrisy at its worst. Yet, he is getting away with it.

Free Speech

The Trump administration's attack on free speech reaches into universities.  This genocide scholar is having none of it.  Criticism of Israel need not be anti-semitic, especially calling the country out for its savage treatment of Palestinians.

Giving In

This is a case of giving in rather than fighting back when fighting back was needed.  Academic freedom doesn't mean much when federal dollars are involved.

Fighting Back -- Weakly

Former President Obama's response to Trump's charges of treason was one statement from a spokesperson.  It was and is hardly enough to take on the bully pulpit of the presidency.  Democrats have yet to learn to fight back against lies and insinuations.  They are still unable to master the new media and it is hurting the party at the polls.  They need to communicate facts strenuously and persistently without deference to the Oval Offfice.

Out Of Control

ICE's rush to arrest migrants and jail them is out of control, as this story demonstrates.  It is ruinous to America's reputation and contrary to the promise of the Statue of Liberty. Fortunately, citizens are protesting and lawyers suing to stop it.  Their efforts are not enough right now but public opinion has shifted and the next election will reveal how much Americans care.

No Doubt

Can there be any doubt that the IDF is engaged in ethnic cleansing with actions like this?  And, from a country which remembers the Holocaust in everything it does.

Just Business

Just business -- or so they say.

Criminal

This is criminal.  With millions around the earth starving and facing death, to destroy food that could keep them alive is beyond shameful.  The Trump administration has burned America's reputation to the ground.

Extinction

Many smaller PBS/NPR stations are facing their mortality with this senate vote.  It will be a blow to free speech and not-for-profit news gathering, not to mention educational TV.

Climate Change

The Trump Administration is at it again.  It is hiding legally mandated climate reports from the public.  Trump has called climate change a hoax and has already backtracked on numerous activities to combat it.  Apparently by hiding the reports it spares him from answering embarrassing questions about increasingly violent weather. What citizens don't know won't hurt them.  Transparency be damned.  This is yet another coverup by an authoritarian government, which will do real harm.  It's shameful and infuriating.

At Last

At last, President Trump appears to be coming around to the view that Putin has been playing him over Ukraine. Trump is now releasing much-needed weapons to the country.  What took him so long when observers saw it from the beginning? Our president seems to be a slow learner.

Phony

This is a phony, blatantly outrageous excuse for slamming Canada with a 35% tariff. Trump is going out of his way to wreck foreign relations.   All in pursuit of illusory power...

Communications Challenge

How do you convince people of climate change and the extreme weather events that come with it?  This is the communications challenge faced by weather services.  It's not going to be easy.  People live in a bubble.  They think it can't happen to me until it does.  What is needed is a new behavior of climate awareness and what can happen whether fires or floods and preparation for both.  We're nowhere near that goal.

He's Learning

Trump is learning that Putin can't be trusted.  What took him so long?  Biden knew that from the beginning.  Could it be this self-promoting dealmaker has met a person with whom he can't negotiate?

Resistance

Los Angeles has turned into a model of resistance to ICE raids on immigrants.  It's the people telling the Trump administration to back off. Americans should be proud of them.

Why?

Why do people persist in building in flood zones?  What is the quirk in the human mind that says a flood can't happen to me?  Why are they shocked when it happens?  It turns out several Texas camps along the Guadalupe River are in flood zones and they were ravaged by the downpour on July 4.  Blame is being passed around freely but no one yet is saying the camps never should have been built next to the river in the first place.

Tax Law

A centerpiece of Trump's " big beautiful bill" is adjustment of the tax code.  It gives money back to Americans but at the cost of the national debt.  The question is how long it can it last if trillions more are added to what the nation owes.  Once again, only time will tell.

Time

Time will tell whether this legislation is brutal or not.  Time and the voters.

Parents

In the news business, it depends on who your parents are.  Owners not dedicated to freedom of the press will settle lawsuits without fighting and compromise their reporters and editors.  Perfect example:  CBS News whose parent is Paramount.

Protest

What good is a protest if no one is listening?  The EPA's leaders are going their own way under Trump and deaf to employee complaints.  One can only hope voters are listening and will voice their objections in the next election.
