Lies And Networks

The nation's networks divided over the decision to carry Trump's speech on election fraud last night. Only Fox carried the entire 24 minutes. The others resorted to real-time fact checking and special reports. Trump's well documented history of lies about the 2020 election was at the root of the networks' hesitance. A president used to command respect. No longer.

Outrageous

Trump is saying that traffic stops by ICE officers should continue in order to corral "criminals." They were suspended, of course, after two motorists were shot to death by ICE police. Trump ignores the fact that most of those arrested are hard-working, law-abiding residents. Only a tiny fraction of those placed in detention have criminal records. Trump's claims are outrageous and are hurting friends and neighbors.

You Can't: We Can

President Trump has told Iran that it can't impose tolls on ships passing through the strait of Hormuz but he is proposing a toll for American protection of shipping. This comes after he loudly proclaimed the strait is international waters and should remain toll free. Once again he is talking out of the both sides of his mouth and confusing everyone.

Split

The American Jewish community is split in its support of Israel. Religious Jews continue to favor the government despite its demolition of Gaza. Secular Jews don't. If I were Netanyahu, I would be worried. Israel's strongest supporter has been the US. If the US moves away, Israel's long-term troubles will only get worse. It is a testament to the idea of make peace, not war.

Lotta Good It Did

The USA team crashed out of the World Cup with a 4-1 spanking by the Belgium team. President Trump's intervention to suspend a red card against a star US player did no good, but it did spark controversy. A US president meddling in sports affairs where he didn't belong. Trump, of course, took credit for his ham-handed effort, and now he gets to explain the outcome. Will he call the US team a bunch of losers?
