Clever PR

A town facing the cost of a $10 million parking structure has decided to use the services of Uber.  At a cost of $167,000 a year, it can pay for subsidized rides for 60 years.  The town of Summit, NJ, has created a clever PR solution for its citizens.  It helps them travel the last mile from home to station and is saving money at the same time.  One wonders why other municipalities have not been as successful in finding creative solutions for transportation.  Granted that this is a test and could fail in the execution, but it is has an undeniable flair.

Uber and Lyft state that their background checks are superior.
If so, they should have no reason to object to an outdated, less thorough background check.
Yet both companies state that fingerprint checks will vastly reduce the numbers of current and future drivers.
If Uber had any concern for their customers, they would agree to law enforcement conducted fingerprint background checks and proper insurance would be in place.
These people passed Uber"s check.
Would ALL of them have passed a fingerprint background?

It takes approximately 2 Days, and
with a 20 min session over Skype, almost anyone and everyone can register on Uber with fake documents and approved even if they happen to be a sex offender.

Authorities have discovered that he 1) is a convicted level two sex offender 2) has a suspended license 3) had his registration revoked and 4) has no insurance. With all of this, Uber still had no problem granting him access to the platform and millions of riders.
