Perception And Reality
Ukrainians are buoyed by the rapid advance of their troops against the Russians. The perception is the war is at a turning point, but that is deadly. The Russians are just getting started and as experts say, they have the advantage in weapons, men and logistics. They might be defeated for the moment but they have a well of resources, including conscription if there is need for more men to replace tens of thousands who have been injured and killed so far. It all depends on the will of Putin who can hammer the Ukrainians until he gets his way. Euphoria is dangerous. One should take a cautious but grim satisfaction of progress with eyes on the future. What's next? Can we hold out? Is there an end in sight? These are questions wise Ukrainians are asking.
