Sending A Message

A Connecticut jury sent a message to Alex Jones of Infowars and Free Speech Systems.  Lying in public can cost you.  In this case the penalty is $965 million. Jones is defiant, but that is not going to help him.  Personal bankruptcy is an out and chances are good he will use it.  The grieving families from the Sandy Hook massacre will probably never see the money awarded yesterday.  But, the point has been made.  Hiding under the First Amendment while lying is not a wise move.  The Amendment allows for serious error but not for aggressive, false messaging, the kind he used to spread misinformation and conspiracy theories.  I have long been a Free Speech advocate, but Jones has shown there are limits and he crossed them again and again. He deserves ruin, and he is getting it.
