Self-destructive.
The longer Republicans quarrel over who their next speaker might be, the weaker the party looks in the public's eyes. At this hour, they still don't have a nominee who can gather the votes for the position. They are going to try again today but no one knows what the outcome might be -- at least not yet. Meanwhile, government is adrift, needing to pass a budget and to get on with legislation hanging fire. One of the great Speakers in the history of the House, Sam Rayburn, used to say, "If you want to get along, go along." Radical Republicans have yet to learn those words and their message is "My way or else." It will be interesting to see the outcome of the 2024 elections.
