Caught

The Air Force is struggling with the environment of its missile capsules.  It seems they are enveloped in asbestos and PCBs and a number of former military personnel who worked in them have come down with cancer.  The service is studying the issue again and will report soon, but it is a ding to its reputation.  It appears that when these capsules were built, hazards were downplayed or unknown and in subsequent decades studies were ignored.  It is not the first time that in pursuit of national security environmental dangers were minimized or overlooked.  It probably won't be the last.
